Dr Jillian Ball     B.A.(Hons), M. (Clin. Psych.), PhD


Jillian Ball is a Clinical Psychologist with experience gained in a variety of settings over the past 30 years. She has expertise in the treatment of mood disorders, anxiety, eating disorders and psychological difficulties arising from early traumas. In her practice, Jill uses cognitive behaviour therapy, schema-focused cognitive therapy and mindfulness, and is widely recognised for her skills and research in these treatment areas. She has presented her work at international conferences and has numerous publications. Jill has held clinical psychology positions at Prince Henry Hospital and Prince of Wales Hospital, Sydney and has also worked in Hobart and Geelong.


In addition to her clinical work, Jill holds a conjoint senior lecturing position within the School of Psychiatry, UNSW. Recent research interests include randomised controlled trials in the psychological management of bipolar disorder and the relationship between anxiety and (hypo)mania. Other research has focused on the development of cognitive therapy programs for women at risk of post-natal depression at Sydney Women’s Hospital. Her PhD examined cognitive-therapy and family therapy in the outpatient treatment of anorexia nervosa.


Jill has written extensively for individuals suffering depression and eating disorders. She has co-authored a number of self-help books including the popular Beating the Blues (over 150,000 copies sold), When Eating is Everything and Eating Disorders: A Guide for Families. Jill has also written psychological material for the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions (ANARE).


Jill is registered with the Psychology Board of Australia. She is also a member of the Australian Psychological Society and the College of Clinical Psychologists.
